Privacy & analytics.
How VDT Labs handles information when you visit vdtlabs.com.au. The short version: we use two privacy-respecting tools to understand how the site is used, so we can make it better. We don't sell your data, and we don't run ads.
What we use
- Google Analytics 4 — aggregate traffic only: which pages are viewed, how you arrived (a search, a link, a referral), an approximate city-level location, and your device and browser type. It sets cookies. We do not collect your name or email through it.
- Microsoft Clarity — anonymised session replay and heatmaps, so we can see where the site helps or confuses. Text you type is masked by default — we don't see passwords, messages, or form contents.
Why we collect it
Solely to improve the site and the things we offer — what's clear, what's confusing, what people look for. It is not used to build advertising profiles, and we don't sell or trade it.
Who processes it
The data is handled by Google and Microsoft, acting as our analytics providers under their own terms. Both are configured for a light footprint (input masking on, no advertising features enabled).
The Captain's Test
If you take the Captain's Test and give us your email, you're opting in: we'll send your reading and may reach out about your crossing. We use it only for that — we don't spam, and we don't sell or share it. Your answers are stored with your email so the reading can be personalised and we can follow up; ask us to delete them and we will, and you can unsubscribe any time.
Bot protection
The Captain's Test form is protected from automated abuse by Cloudflare Turnstile, a privacy-first alternative to CAPTCHAs. Your interaction with it is also covered by the Cloudflare Turnstile Privacy Addendum.
Your choices
- Block or clear cookies in your browser, or browse in a private / incognito window.
- Use your browser's "Do Not Track" or tracking-protection settings — both tools respect them where supported.
- Email us to ask what we hold about you, or to request that it be removed.
